The Makers' Workshop is open seven days a week from 0900 to 1700 and paper making tours are conducted throughout the day. The tours take about 30 minutes and are suitable for small groups and individuals to experience the art of making paper. They are conducted by experienced paper makers who encourage you to get your hands wet. Paper can be made from a variety of fibres depending on their properties. At the makers' Workshop you will find paper made from apple pulp, lavender, rainforest leaves, locally found plants and, famously, from wombat and kangaroo poo. Guides take you through the paper making process from wallaby bottom to writer's journal. Once you understand the principles, you are encouraged to try paper making for yourself. It's a very smooth and tactile process that can become quite addictive. From the dying rooms you follow the paper trail to the paper construction studio, where sheets of deckle edged paper are transformed into journals, folios and writing paper for special occasions.
