Australian Age of Dinosaurs
Lot 1 Dinosaur Drive (turn off Landsborough Highway), Winton, QLD
Travel Guide - The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is home to the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. A working dinosaur museum with the most productive fossil preparation laboratory in the southern hemisphere, it's located on 1,800 hectares of spectacular mesa plateau with vast scenery, wildlife and walking trails. At the museum you'll see and hear about their exciting finds of unique dinosaurs that lived 95 million years ago, including gigantic sauropods and "Banjo", Australia's greatest carnivorous dinosaur. The Museum tours are conducted hourly between two buildings - the Collection Room and the Laboratory. The museum encourages visitors to participate in the Laboratory through its Prep-A-Dino program, in which visitors can book to prepare real dinosaur bones under the guidance of fossil technicians. Tours are from 9am, the last full tour leaving the Laboratory at 3pm. The Museum is open from 8.30am to 5pm daily from April to September; closed Sundays from October to March, Christmas and Boxing Days. This is a not-to-be-missed attraction, a once in a life time chance to see and touch real dinosaur bones.
