Travel Guide - The Ida Bay Railway is the last operating bush "tramway" in Tasmania Ride 14 kilometres in a WWII era locomotive on Australia's most southern railway. Round trip takes two hours. Start at Lune Lune River station, then travel through bush land abundant with bird life and wild flowers to the end of the line at Deep Hole and Elliott's Beach. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of button grass plains, white sandy beaches and the banks of Ida Bay and Lune River Estuary. At Elliott's Beach there's a shelter with Barbecue facilities, picnic tables, chair and toilets. Enjoy some time at the beach with a picnic or barbecue and catch a later train back to the station. Before or after your trip, visit the Ida Bay Railway Cafe and enjoy a selection of hot and cold food or drinks. Barbecue meat packs are available at the Cafe. Allow two hours for the train trip.
